BookBinding: Make your own Nature Journal

BookBinding: Make your own Nature Journal

Congratulations for completing your new journal! If you’d like to order some supplies for yourself, here are a few suggestions

Melinda’s Nature Journals: Open spine coptic and french link journals

Supplies below include some affiliate links

Bookboard:

  1. This is what we used in the workshop- Thick chipboard in a very large sheet that you can cut to size: Ordered from Dick Blick link. You will need a box cutter, straight edge and cutting mat to cut this into correct sizes.

2. Chipboard- This option is thinner, and good for smaller books. Or you can double them (glue them together) for a thicker book cover.

3. Recycle: You can use the cardboard backing of drawing pads or watercolor paper pads, and Cereal boxes.

PVA Glue

  1. This is what I used but there are other brands

Waxed thread:

  1. You can use your own thread and run in it through a block of beeswax.

2. Or you can try a set like this:

Paper: Canson Mixed Media

For 10×7 Finished Journal size, get the 11×14 paper size, and cut the pages to 10×14.

For 9×6 Finished Journals, Order the 9×12 paper size, and cut the spiral binding off.

Cover paper

I used Lotka marble paper for the book covers. You can find similar ones below:
