Trees: Monterey Bay Nature Journal Club Online
August 21, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am PDT
What we’ll be doing:
Tracking Trees
Join us this month for a session about trees. Deciduous trees (those that drop leaves in the fall) have bare branches in the winter and can be hard to tell them apart from each other or to know what kind of tree they are.
In spring and summer its so much easier to know what kind they are by looking at their leaves.
In the past, we’ve looked at twigs and new growth of these trees to learn how to identify them.
Right now, most are lush with leaves, so its a great time to examine and get to know them better. We’ll look at leaves, bark and trunks.
Start wandering in your neighborhood and noticing what trees are around you.
Which ones are deciduous? What do their trunks and bark look like?
Which trees are evergreen? Do they have broad leaves or needles?
Take a photographs: of a leaf/leaves, and of the trunk and bark.
We can use these images in our Sunday session!
