Journaling in Nature: Potrero Redwoods

This Santa Lucia Conservancy land in Carmel Valley is not an area that is open to the general public.

We’ll explore a riparian habitat with big leaf maples, coast live oaks and coast redwood trees.

Bring your sketchbook and curiosity as we explore a local nature preserve. We’ll explore this special land that is not open to the public. Tall redwoods and variety of native plants and shrubs, keeping an eye out for birds and other animals.

All are welcome! Space is limited- you must register to save your space.

Where:

The redwood site is a 10 min drive from the visitor’s center.

When:

10/23/21 You must arrive by 9am at the Santa Lucia Conservancy Visitor’s Center÷

We will caravan to the Redwood location. Late arrivals will not be able to enter, as per the Santa Lucia Conservancy instructions.

Bring with you:

• Bring a sketchbook or paper on a clipboard, a pen/pencil (and colors optional).
• Wear layers appropriate for coastal weather, sturdy close-toed shoes for natural trails
• folding stool, if desired
• Water bottle, snacks, sun hat

What we’ll be doing:

We will begin with an introduction from the Conservancy naturalist. Then Melinda will do a demonstration on how we can nature journal today. Then everyone with have free time to explore and journal, until we gather back to have snacks and share our discoveries before we depart.

Location details:

We gather at 9am at the visitor center and drive by caravan as a group and leave as a group. Plan on arriving before 9am, and leaving at 1pm.

Restroom: Portable potty on site.
