Bears hunting with claws and jaws

I took a nature journal break and traveled to Brooks Falls, Katmai National Park in Alaska from my desk.

Drawing and observing them was a much needed peaceful experience. I felt the cool water of the river, the smell of the salmon, and hearing the splashing salmon as they lept out of the water.

Three weeks ago when we visited with the Monterey Bay Nature Journal Club they were not this rotund! One of the bears had a big belly hanging down.

You can visit the bears yourself here.
